Azerbaijan is positioned on the western coast of the Caspian Sea at the southeast edge of the Caucasus. The county is a mountainous country, and only about 7% of it is arable land. The Kura River Valley is the area’s major agricultural zone. Likely to other Eastern European and CIS states, Azerbaijan has reached a high level of economic development, human development and literacy, as well as a small rate of unemployment. The Republic of Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus region and touches Georgia to the northwest, Russia to the north, Iran to the south and Armenia in the north to the west. It also touches the Caspian Sea to the east.

Azerbaijan was formally the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic and part of the USSR.

Visa Requirements

International students must apply for visa at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in their respective country.

Cost of short-term visa in Azerbaijan will be about $100 and long-term student visa about $200.

To support visa application you will require the certificate of invitation from the educational institution, financial guarantees of tuition fee and payment for residence is required as well. Addition to this following documents are also required:

  • 1 photo
  • Copy of passport
  • Visa application Form
The Study visa of foreign students in Azerbaijan covers the complete study period:
  • UG / Bachelor – 4 years
  • PG/ Master – 2 years
  • PhD/ Post-graduate – 3 years

The Study visa must be renewed for every educational year. A student must apply to Counselor department, each time when she or he returns to his native country.

Temporary registration of foreign students in Azerbaijan:

Within a week, after entering the university, international students should apply for Council-Protocol Department for living registration. To support this application, they should represent:

  • 3 photos
  • Copy of passport
  • Relevant Fees
